UZ Energy IG-16K-U 16 kWh Battery Storage

Why Palm Tree Energy uses the UZ Energy IG-16K-U for off-grid, whole-home backup and hybrid energy systems.

The battery is one of the most important components of an off-grid or backup-power system. Capacity matters—but so do power capability, expandability, inverter compatibility, installation flexibility and the ability to support the property as its energy requirements change.

Palm Tree Energy uses the UZ Energy IG-16K-U as one of our battery-storage options because its 16 kWh architecture gives us a practical building block for designing residential, rural and off-grid energy systems.

More Than a Battery

Battery selection affects the performance of the entire energy system.

A battery should not be selected simply because it has a large kilowatt-hour number. The battery must work with the inverter, support the electrical loads, accept available solar and generator charging power, and provide enough stored energy for the property’s operating requirements.

Palm Tree Energy looks at the battery as part of the complete energy infrastructure. We evaluate solar production, inverter capacity, generator capacity, electrical loads, expected overnight consumption, seasonal conditions and future expansion before determining how much battery storage makes sense.

What We Consider When Selecting Battery Storage

Required stored energy in kilowatt-hours
Continuous and peak power requirements
Hybrid inverter compatibility
Available solar charging capacity
Generator charging and off-grid operation
Future solar and battery expansion
Equipment location and installation conditions
Why We Use This Battery

Why the UZ Energy IG-16K-U fits many Palm Tree Energy systems.

The IG-16K-U provides a combination of storage capacity, power capability and scalability that allows us to configure battery systems around the actual requirements of the property.

01

16 kWh Building Block

Each battery provides 16 kWh of rated storage. That makes it straightforward to build larger systems without using a large number of small individual battery modules.

02

Substantial Power Capability

Energy capacity tells us how long a battery can supply power. Power capability tells us how much load it can support at one time. The IG-16K-U is designed to provide substantial charge and discharge capability in addition to energy storage.

03

Expandable Architecture

Storage can be configured around the initial project requirements while preserving a path for additional capacity as electrical loads, solar production or backup-duration requirements increase.

04

51.2 V Low-Voltage Platform

The 51.2 V architecture works with the type of low-voltage hybrid inverter and off-grid systems Palm Tree Energy commonly designs and integrates.

05

Off-Grid Applications

Battery storage is especially important on properties where solar and generator power must work together. Stored energy allows the house to operate without requiring the generator to run continuously.

06

Long-Term System Planning

We prefer equipment that allows the energy system to evolve. A properly planned battery platform can remain part of the system as additional solar, loads or generating capacity are added.

Scalable Energy Storage

Build the battery bank around the property.

The 16 kWh battery format gives us a practical way to increase storage capacity as the energy requirements of a project increase.

16 kWh 1 Battery

A single 16 kWh storage module for applications where the load analysis supports a smaller battery bank.

32 kWh 2 Batteries

A useful configuration for projects requiring substantially greater overnight or backup energy.

48 kWh 3 Batteries

Additional capacity for properties with larger loads, longer backup requirements or greater solar production.

64 kWh 4 Batteries

Larger energy-storage capacity for demanding residential, rural and off-grid applications.

Battery Protection & Cold-Weather Operation

Designed for demanding energy-storage installations.

Battery storage equipment may be installed in very different environments. Palm Tree Energy considers temperature, equipment location, protection features and operating conditions when designing the battery portion of an energy system.

Fire Protection

Available Fire-Extinguishing Protection

The IG-16K-U platform is available with a fire-extinguishing device, adding another layer of protection within the battery system. This is an important feature to consider when planning battery storage for residential, rural, off-grid and equipment-room installations.

Cold-Weather Operation

Available Internal Battery Heating

The IG-16K-U is available with an internal heating configuration for cold-weather applications. The heating system allows the battery to support charging at temperatures down to approximately −20°C (−4°F), making the platform useful for colder climates and installations where winter temperatures can otherwise restrict lithium-battery charging.

Battery Sizing

More battery is not automatically better. The system has to work together.

Battery capacity must be considered alongside solar production. A large battery bank provides additional reserve capacity, but the available solar array must still produce enough energy to recharge it.

In an off-grid system, a generator can provide additional charging when solar production is reduced by weather, seasonal conditions, shading or nighttime operation.

This is why Palm Tree Energy evaluates the complete system rather than treating the solar array, batteries, inverter and generator as separate pieces of equipment.

SOLAR
Produces the energy. Solar supplies property loads and charges the battery bank whenever sufficient sunlight is available.
BATTERY
Stores the energy. Stored energy supplies the property when solar production is insufficient or unavailable.
INVERTER
Manages and converts the power. The hybrid inverter coordinates solar, batteries, electrical loads, utility power when present and generator operation.
GEN
Provides supplemental energy when needed. On an off-grid property, the generator can recharge the batteries when solar production cannot maintain the programmed battery reserve.
Complete Energy Infrastructure

The battery is one part of a complete power system.

Palm Tree Energy designs the equipment to operate together rather than simply assembling individual components.

Energy Source

Solar Array

Produces renewable energy for immediate electrical loads and battery charging.

Energy Storage

UZ Energy Battery

Stores available energy so the property can continue operating when solar production drops.

Energy Management

Hybrid Inverter

Coordinates solar production, battery charging, electrical loads and generator operation.

Supplemental Power

Generator

Provides additional energy and battery charging during extended periods of insufficient solar production.
